Open to Change
A couple years ago I was browsing Jabberwocky Books for my next read. Nothing jumped out at me. Running out of time, I randomly picked up Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. It ended up being one of my favorite books of all time. The crazy part is that I almost didn't read it because it wasn’t in the category of my usual picks. Science Fiction? Not for me. Why? I had absolutely no reason to pass over an entire genre and yet I almost did. I just started re-reading it this week in preparation for going to see the movie.
Another favorite is I Shall Not Hate by Dr Izzeldin Abuelaish. My favorite quote from the book is, “You shouldn't hate something you don't know, because it may turn out to be the bearer of your greatest good fortune". I almost missed out on both books because of arbitrary nonsensical criteria. Sometimes I wonder what other limiting decisions I am making on a daily basis. Where could I be more open minded and in doing so, enrich my life? Read something new today, open your mind to a change.
