Open to Change
A couple years ago I was browsing Jabberwocky Books for my next read. It was one of those days that nothing appealed to me and as the minutes ticked by, my family was losing patience. I didn’t want to leave without something and so I randomly picked up Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. What began as a hasty selection is now one of my favorite books of all time. The crazy part is that I almost didn't read it because it isn’t in the category of my usual picks. Science Fiction? Nah, not for me. I had absolutely no reason to exclude an entire genre and yet I almost did. I just started re-reading it in preparation for seeing the movie.
Another book I nearly missed out on is I Shall Not Hate by Dr Izzeldin Abuelaish. My favorite quote from the book is, “You shouldn't hate something you don't know, because it may turn out to be the bearer of your greatest good fortune". Both books were almost rejected because of an arbitrary narrative running through my head. I wonder, what other limiting choices am I making on a daily basis? Where could I be more open minded and in doing so, enrich my life?
